Broken Promises
This mural is a striking vertical piece painted on the side of a tall, modernist concrete building with large window panels. The mural itself occupies a narrow column on the corner of the building, cleverly using the architectural feature to its advantage.
The artwork depicts a woman in a red top, gazing over her shoulder directly at the viewer. Her expression is serene but confident, rendered in a realistic, monochrome style with detailed shading—contrasting vividly with the bold red of her clothing. She holds a bouquet of flowers in her arms, which introduces a splash of colour to the composition. The flowers—roses, lilies, and others—are painted in soft pastels and vibrant yellows, adding emotional warmth to the otherwise stark building.
The mural is signed “ZABOU,” identifying it as a piece by the well-known London-based street artist known for expressive, large-scale portraits.
In contrast to the mural, the surrounding building appears quite run-down, with boarded-up windows and faded panels, making the artwork stand out even more as a moment of colour and life in an otherwise bleak urban setting. The juxtaposition seems intentional, breathing life into an overlooked part of the cityscape.
